It's realllly hard to write I think. Really hard to come up with plausible-seeming fictional religions in general, unless it's just expies of real-world religions.

It makes sense. First seasons are usually pretty bad, and often not a great indication of what a show ultimately becomes. So when you start later in a show, you get to see the best quality stuff right away, and get a better idea of what the show is like. Whereas if you love the first season of a show, later seasons often change quite a lot.

I agree. Finrod is really interesting. Not only for killing the werewolf but also because he straddled the worlds between Sindar and Noldor. I personally would love more fic around his relationship with Galadriel.

I don't mean to be unsympathetic, but sometimes women who suffer from low self esteem other issues are drawn to this "type" for a reason, and vice versa. The women don't believe they deserve anything better, and the men are looking for vulnerable prey. You may be right in that your friend is romanticizing some dysfunctional behavior, but there's nothing you can really do about it if she refuses to see it or get help. The best you can do for her is to try and stay in touch in case things go south.

The thing that fascinates me the most is how Finrod and Luthien both use music as a weapon. There's also some meta out there that this is how Galadriel brought down Dol Guldur. The use of words and music in Tolkien really is fascinating.
