I love Voyager, but the writing never dealt with consequences of people's actions very well. I was always put off by the episode where Torres reprograms the doctor (basically mind rape of a sentient being at that point) so she can gentically alter her fetus and she got nothing more than a reprimand (if that?).

But, I think ToS said it best when it was implied that the only choice is fuck, fight or die. I think the only choice is your partner, but your mental state and decision making is severely impaired, so even that choice is practically taken away from you the further along you are in Pon Farr.
