The people who justify it with statements like 'a teenager is technically not a child' worry me.

That, or "it's legal in some countries!"

Like, yeah. Nine is the age of consent in some countries, and some countries marry off little girls to adult men. Legality is not the issue.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT, and this.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, this is mostly about the immense US centrism in fandom and the inability of most of you people to wrap your little heads around the fact that no, 18 is not some magical mystery age where you turn from innocent child to predator if you date a younger person. To bring up shit like "9 years omg" is incredibly stupid because this is not what people mean and you fucking know it.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh really? So your arbitrary magical number when a kid becomes an adult is the right one, then? Is it 10? 11? 14? 15?

Fuck US law, frankly, I consider anyone under 20 a kid (i.e. all teenagers) based on psychological evidence about brain development. If you can't see why people would be uncomfortable at least with young-to-mid teens in sexual scenarios, I really have no idea what to tell you.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Brain is fully developed by age 25, not 20.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
With more extreme differences in the teen range compared to a fully developed adult. But hey, as long as you're not arguing that an adult having sex with a 15-year-old is okay.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
If the adult is 18, I see no problem.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Brain development is probably not finished until the mid-twenties up to thirty. So anyone under 25 is a child now? Just because you think you found the perfect arbitrary age when a child should be considered and adult doesn't make it the truth, no matter how much of a tantrum you throw.

And where exactly did I mention anything about not understanding people being uncomfortable with that? Stop making things up.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You skewing the argument upward hardly negates it. When you're arguing that it's arbitrary and relative for teens, especially younger teens, to have consensual sex with adults, yeah that's gross. Any kind of cultural difference doesn't make it somehow okay.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Again, where did I say that?
And yes, it changes the argument because based on what you wrote, people under 25 shouldn't be able to consent to sex either and anyonehavin sex with them is gross.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
A teenager's brain is going to be significantly less developed than a 24-year-old. It's a pretty fair distinction, and your argument conveniently ignores that.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And you still conveniently move the goalpost all the time.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-26 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, this whole thread I've said teens are kids. Read up if you've forgotten, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-27 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I noticed this too, anon.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-27 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
You also said "based on brain development", read your own comment.
