man this is such a simplistic view of the whole subject

don't a vast number of people who consume this kind of porn put themselves in the place of the student not the teacher?

besides, do you really want to go down the road of "what do fictional kinks say about a person"? because if you do then most of fandom is terrible people. should people who read non-con be concerned they might assault someone in real life?

should people who read non-con be concerned they might assault someone in real life?

Not sure what AYRT would say, but IMO, people who get off on noncon should feel a little weird that they get off on the idea of rape. They don't have to be worried that they'll insult someone in real life.

If the idea of rape excites you, that's disturbing in and of itself.

It is possible to get off on something only in your mind because in your mind/fantasies you have control.

I've gotten off to hostage/captor smut frequently. But I also triple check the doors at night and shake on terror at the idea of someone breaking in.

you... dumb ass... people who fantasize about rape often don't fantasize being the rapist, they are often placing themselves in the role of the victim. survivors of sexual assault and those who haven't experienced it alike have fantasies like this. theyre perfectly normal to have, even if you yourself do not experience them. they don't want to be raped in real life, it's a fantasy that centers around control of a situation where you have no control.

I'm just gonna quote OP's comment from below, because they've articulated this so well:

In the case where someone writes a smut fic in which an underage person has sex with an adult, the main problem, IMO, is that their perspective is not the audience's perspective. Maybe it's hot to the writer because they're imagining having their first sexual encounter with an idealized yet inappropriate older figure. This doesn't seem weird or unhealthy to me, any more than imagining how our high school experience could have been if life were more like fiction. Or maybe they're a CSA who's imagining themselves back in the shoes of the victim, but this time recontextualizing the situation in a way that helps them somehow. I have no opinion on that.

But when someone posts that fantasy publicly, in the form of a story that's about other, publicly shared characters, what that fantasy is for them doesn't go with it. The fantasy becomes something far more objective. And objectively, they've now posted a story that's about an adult having sex with a kid.

WORD to this, anon. I'd never quite put it in these terms in my mind, but this is it exactly.

i'm sorry but this is complete bullshit. you've read fic, and presumably, books before. you understand how framing narratives work. at least i fucking hope you do. people who write this shit to process things or explore themselves do not suddenly forget how to frame horrible acts as horrible acts. at worst, they're a bad writer who can't do this effectively, but their bad fic doesn't have nearly the scope of damage that you are delusional enough to think it might.

Except nobody here is talking about fics that depict underage rape as bad. The entire issue is about fics that present it as sexy wank fodder. If you dont recognize the importance of that distinction, I have no idea how to reason with you.

because i would figure that fucking goes without saying??? people who are into it as a sexual fantasy KNOW IT'S BAD IN REAL LIFE, IDIOT

Every time I see a comment like this, I automatically assume the commenter is hardcore into rape fantasies and feels guilty about it.

AYRT, and what kind of bizarre non-logic is this? Out of this entire ongoing debate, one of the things that disturbs and saddens me most is the people who refuse to recognize that the "fiction influences reality" side feels the way they do because as far as they're concerned, fiction influences reality. Your unwillingness to recognize that and insistence on figuring out some other, less legitimate reason, is super unnerving.

The only thing I can fathom is that deep down, you won't consider what that actual core stance is, because you're afraid you'd find it too legitimate for comfort.

Lol. Not ayrt, but man, just keep posting secrets about it, and I'll happily keep turning up to remind people their fucked up "kinks" aren't fine just because they want them to be.

You're doing the lord's work, nonny. So many sinners, so little time!

Nah, but if I were, then you bet I'd feel guilty about it.

Don't ever read old-school romance novels, anon. You'll clutch your pearls so hard you'll break the string.
