I'm the exact same way. I've had panic disorder for about five years now. About the only surefire way to make it through a panic attack is to read through a Harry Potter book--simply because it was the first thing I grabbed when the first panic attack hit. It's not at all shameful to have something like that to calm you down. If it works, if it helps get you through the anxiety, then that's all that matters.

But I also understand how hard it is to come to terms with anxiety...took me months to get up the courage to tell my family, even longer to tell my friends. It's very difficult, and I'm sure you've heard this a million times already...but it does feel better once you've told someone. At least then you have someone to talk to.

Just know you're not alone, and that there's nothing at all wrong with having an outlet like that to keep you calm. Five years later I'm mostly doing alright, but I still keep a Harry Potter book on hand, just in case :D
