Several reasons: Where I live (some mysterious jungle in Latin America), it has to do with money and sending said money back to your family here.

A dollar here costs around Q7.50 (a bit less right now). So imagine hypothetically making US$1,000.00 a month and sending US$500.00 to your family, they would be receiving an average of Q3,750.00 monthly, which is more than a month's salary here. Also lack of jobs and foreign investment: here you could get a job for less than minimum wage (Q2,700 aprox.) for a 10-12 hour job. Also lack of foreign investment = lack of jobs for both poor people and college graduates.

I've also heard about and seen many people who send money back so their families are able to open up small business here.

Poverty is also a huge factor. Even if you end up finishing high-school, many can't afford college and end up doing minimum wage jobs. Others end up doing independent jobs but that doesn't mean it's a steady income.

Also some people are escaping gang violence and with the above it's a good reason why they would flee to the US.

This is what the immigrants are here in my city for, the money thing that is. It make a lot of sense.

Yeah, basically better pay for the same amount of hours or less.
