If I were to refer to someone as a "Dog Whore" would you conclude that I am talking about a person who has sex with dogs for money, or a dog who has sex with people for money? Or some third option I'm not considering? Like a person who has sex with other people for profit, but insists on being paid in puppies?

I would assume it's a piece of invective not something to be understood as a literal phrase

presumably, combining the invective terms of "dog" and "whore" into one general phrase that encompasses both

Yes. Possibly someone who would own all the dogs if they could, because doggies! "Whore" has been a colloquial term for fan or devotee for quite a while.

That's valid... But say the other person refereed to me as a "dog pimp" what would you keep that conclusion? Because then it became a discussion on what exactly qualifies a dog whore.

A dog pimp would be someone who has a lot of cute doggos who takes them all to the park and gets all the girls to give them pats on the head

If you mean someone who has dogs and lends them out for money for bestiality, I don't think anyone would call that person a dog pimp, they'd be an animal abuser

Any sort of literal interpretation would not occur to me.

Yeah, but I'm too deep into this now. They refuted it with a literal interpretation, and now I'm stuck arguing my own literal interpretation. It's too late to opt out and be like "I was just mixing two words to insult you".

My first thought was actually someone who really really loves dogs, but not in a sexual or kinky way. As in "she's a whore for _________."

Well, I might assume that dog could be being used in the pejorative way for unattractive women. Like, a guy who goes after unattractive women because he thinks that they have low self-esteem or don't take much effort.
Or I guess the flip, that the guy is a dog (sexually aggressive). Or that it has something to do with the British slang dogging (public sex).

I don't think I would automatically jump to bestiality unless there had been a discussion about dogs beforehand. And I've never thought of puppies being used as currency.
