Food!

What are some of the best food scenes you've seen? The scene doesn't have to be about food. it just has to be there.

The scene in Galaxy Quest where all the actors are given the native food of the characters they play. Hilarious. Damn, now I need to watch Galaxy Quest again.

To this day, my dad still responds to the question "where are you going?" with "TO SEE IF THERE'S A PUB."

I love that movie. My dad and I watch it together relatively frequently. Maybe I'll suggest it for this weekend.

"By Grabthar's Hammer...what a savings."

Alan Rickman's delivery of that line gets me every time, haha. I may be getting you mixed up with someone else but did your dad just have surgery? How is he doing at the moment if you don't mind me asking?

Yup, back surgery. Was successful. He's doing okay. He's a bad patient and doesn't want to take the painkillers, which puts him in a bad mood. So some humor would actually probably be good for him.

I'm glad it went okay. Dads seems to be notorious for wanting to "tough it out" when it comes to painkillers. Hope he feels better soon, Galaxy Quest is always a good cheer-up movie so that sounds like a nice idea.

Obligatory Spirited Away comment. I'd be turned into a pig asap.

Not seen, but some of the best descriptions of food come from A Song of Ice and Fire IMO. Every time GRRM wrote about a feast, I was like "fuck, I want to be there!"

Fortunately, having A Feast of Ice and Fire at least will help me feel like I'm there :P

I used to read these mysteries which had big descriptions of these elaborate sandwiches the detective would make. I would always get hungry even though I don't like sandwiches and usually didn't even like his ingredients, because he was obviously enjoying them so much.

LOL, yes. GRRM loves his food description and I enjoy it, too. I don't know if you've read his book "Fevre Dream" but the main character (who is totally an authorial self insert) has this feast involving like... a dozen oysters and two whole chickens and god knows what else. It's amazing.

It amuses me that he's better at describing feasts than he is at describing sex scenes. Most of his sex scenes are awful and unappealing, but the feasts sound delicious.

LOL well, maybe that's indicative of where all his real life experience is...

Isn't it Eat Drink Man Woman, or is this the cannibal version?

Laura Ingalls Wilder's Farmer Boy has some really good food descriptions. It always makes me hungry. :)

The food in the Studio Ghibli movies. I get hungry watching them.
