I really don't get it when people try to push concrit onto writers when they state they don't want it. Especially for fanfic. Like, it's not the end of the world when a writer doesn't take concrit. Some people get so personally offended if you state you don't want concrit.

Especially since concrit often seems to mean "don't write that, write what I want you to write, the way I want you to write it!" Some people seem very unaware of how obnoxious that is...

"Some people get so personally offended if you state you don't want concrit."

Egos basically. For many people, a writer rejecting their suggestion is a huge blow to their ego. They get into their heads that "criticism" is all-important and writers HAVE to take it and forget that criticism is a skill as writing is. And many of them with this ego problem can't separate their personal tastes from an objective measure of quality. if they don't care for this particular trope its a Bad Trope that should always be avoided.

They also often tend to believe in "if you put it on the internet, expect criticism" which they seem to take as "if I had to see it, I get to complain to the author about it"

IAWTC.

A lot of wank over concrit revolves around the supposed arrogance of writers who don't want concrit on their fic, but I rarely see people point out that it's also pretty arrogant to think that your (completely objective, of course!) opinion is so vital to the writer's improvement that there must be something wrong with them if they don't care about your concrit.

+1, and when they talk about wanting more of a concrit-friendly fandom culture they really often mean they want anything they say to someone who doesn't know them to not just take it into the overall account of opinions but take it as scripture.

I get having a beta being a requirement for fests and other things where you are writing for someone else. But otherwise, I agree with you.
