Dragon Age Origins is a pretty old game now, I'd think even a $500 laptop could play it fine.

The third Dragon Age is a bit of a beast and needs a better graphics card, but it's still a few years old now. You might want to check out the "minimum recommended specifications" are for a few of the newer games you want to play as a starting point.
