(Anonymous) 2017-08-30 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)Basically, your programs (and maybe even your graphics card idr) will normally use only one set of RAM. If you know how, you can force games and programs to run off both, but it still doesnt work the same as having one set of 16.
Each set is separate. If your program needs, for example, 10 gigs... Maybe it's possible for that programs tasks to be divided between the two sets, but if it can't be divided then neither of those 8s will be enough.
But unless your mom is a power gamer or runs photoshop or something, she probably doesnt need 16 gigs of RAM. A basic block of 6 would run just about anything afaik.
