humanity biologically isn't meant for monogamous relationships and holding that as the standard has ruined countless lives

i can't deny it's good strategy for the current economic model we're under however

Do you think monogamy fucks (pun not intended) with both sexes equally? A lot of men seem to think women want monogamous partners but men want as many as possible. I think people of both sexes are all over the map, myself. What would be your ideal societal setup? One night stands only for everybody, or what?

No, I think polygamy in its current state also has issues, but I think open relationships being more accepted would be better for society as a whole. Basically greatly deemphasis ~true love~ and the nuclear family as a concept and allow whatever results from that.

I wouldn't say de-emphasize true love, but change what we see it as because nothing ever really said you only ever had one true love only once.

Really? So everyone in a happy monogamous relationship is lying to themselves?

obviously, did you not read my post?

but really, you're misrepresenting my post. i'm not saying that it can't work. what i am saying is that it doesn't work all that great for the vast majority of people and keeps people in shitty relationships, especially kids.

The vast majority of people, really?

I agree it doesn't work for everyone. But you are presuming an awful lot about people's feelings, especially a large amount of people who would passionately disagree with you for calling their feelings and their commitment to one person somehow fake or unnatural.

I really have to agree. Perfect monogamy for twenty, thirty, fifty years is just...weird.

Why do you think it's held as the standard?

Re: post controversial opinions about mudane things

It works well for our current economic model and is supported and encouraged by some of the most prevalent religions. Consider that something like 20-30% of people in relationships cheat and 60% or more think about cheating. Societies based in village/tribes would have supported an open relationship model better.

Do you have information or statistics on historical or modern trial societies where open relationships were/are the norm?

I mean I read a Nat Geo article about a matriarchy that allows for open relationships once, but I'm mostly bullshitting with some polemics for good measure.

I think it is a good model for raising healthy children.
