It works well for our current economic model and is supported and encouraged by some of the most prevalent religions. Consider that something like 20-30% of people in relationships cheat and 60% or more think about cheating. Societies based in village/tribes would have supported an open relationship model better.

Do you have information or statistics on historical or modern trial societies where open relationships were/are the norm?

I mean I read a Nat Geo article about a matriarchy that allows for open relationships once, but I'm mostly bullshitting with some polemics for good measure.
