I wonder how this person feels about MLM - Fuck she's god me doing this shit - Gay and Bi blokes watching Yaoi? Are they too doing a disservice to Gay and Bi women?

Can people just fucking stop with this "This is for me and if you like it it's bad" bullshit?

I think you're catastrophizing a bit here - it's one (extremely poorly phrased and objectionable) statement, in a broader argument, made by one person, with 60 retweets. And it's not like it's a particularly novel way to be wrong, or uncommon on the Internet. Do we really need the full-on blow up because someone on Twitter said something dumb?

catastrophizing how? She's being an idiot and making an idiotic argument to claim superiority over fellow fans.

You don't think fandom at large is already ALL ABOUT claiming superiority? It's not a catastrophe, but it is something I'm willing to call bullshit on and and ask people to "just stop, Get some help".

Don't be silly, gay and bi men can't like yaoi. That's part of the whole argument, someone totally knows a friend of a friend of a roommate's cousin's brother who tried to write a slash fanfic one and the mean ol fujoshi chased him out with tiki torches.

I remember seeing a gay male author go on a tirade - that word get's used a lot, but this dude was going APESHIT - because his gay erotica wasn't selling as well as some chicks, and this is PROBLEMATIC and women need to just stop, get some help.

Yep, he wasn't doing well in the industry, so burn it all down I guess.

Shit, this was 4 or five usernames ago, back in LJ days I wouldn't even know where to start looking.

May not be the same case, but 've see similar things pop up on Tumblr before with the same, alienating sentiment.

It's not all that new.

"If I'm not doing well, that offends me, then NO ONE WILL."

Yup. My girlfriend pointed something like this out on goodreads a year or so back.

Women, apparently, just don't understand the gay male soul in a deep enough way to really capture their experiences.

Chuck Tingle, on the other hand, is apparently A-ok. And I mean, Chuck Tingle is A-ok, the fucking mad genius that he is, but let's not fuck about, you can't claim women can't capture the depth of gay erotica when you got the wonderful Mr Tingle out there.

To be fair I don't think women can capture the depth of Chuck Tingle either.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
lol right

yaoi is only ever allowed to FETISHIZE queer men and all yaoi fans, who are straight female fujoshi, actually hate irl gay men.

yaoi is never allowed to be an outlet for gay men to explore or enjoy their own sexualities. nope. never.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-04 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
is irl gay men is all about male masculinity? i bet yaoi is still felt in "femininity" category....

(Anonymous) 2017-09-05 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I actually realized I was trans from yaoi. I was 16 years old when I started to wonder about myself. I ended up spending a great deal of my 20s forcing myself to be as girly as possible, because I was shamed for being a yaoi fan and a "fake yaoi boy". So I did everything in my power to project myself as a woman, full stop. But now I'm in my 30s, and I started my HRT earlier this year because I was sick and tired of lying to myself.

Can people just fucking stop with this "This is for me and if you like it it's bad" bullshit?

Could not. agree. more.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see a thing of "This is for me and if you dislike it.... ok? It wasn't for you?" as reasonable.

Because nothing makes me sigh more than angry entitled fans who get so angry when kids shows are obviously geared towards kids. Or people who leave angry comments on artist' work that it's not fanart of whatever other thing they happen to be into.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but that's not the same as "How dare you like this thing I like, you are the wrong demographic, get out stay out because this isn't for you."

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, that's absolutely wrong and I agree.

I've just seen so much "This PB&J sandwich is a terrible steak! Apologize for serving me a terrible steak!"

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Good analogy !

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
who on this message board disagrees?

LMS if you like kittens

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe there aren't many people on THIS board who disagree, but there are a lot of people in fandom who apparently think this way.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-03 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Fucking this though.
