Aren't all pens that aren't the cheep ball point ones gel pens? Or do you mean specifically the ones that come in multi-colored packs? Because most of the pens I use say gel. I like them because the grip is better and they last longer than cheep-ass ball point pens.

Mum wants gel pens for her birthday. She's taken a huge fondness to adult colouring-in books.

I love adult coloring books. It never occurred to me to try them with gel pens!

Gel pens - even cheap ones - give good colour usually, unless they are so ultra-cheap that they refuse to work properly to start with. I'd advise not getting a pack from a discount store.
