Wasn't a secret, but there was a page 2 topic recently about 'things you really hate in your fandom' and there was a comment about a BNF who posts annotated author's notes.

I'm certainly not a BNF in my current fandom, but ever since that secret I'm been in knots worrying that it's about me. (I wrote a novel-length fanfiction a while ago that does indeed have pretty extensive author's notes for each chapter.)

I know what you mean those kind of things always get me super paranoid.

I've taken to not reading those kind of threads when it comes to fic because I know I'm going to find something discouraging. I've been pretty happy ever since I started doing that.

If it makes you feel better, nonny, I generally tend to like authors notes. The longer the better! Especially if it's something like giving a link to a painting mentioned in the story, or historical background, or even just links to meta discussions about a topic in the story?

I don't like review begging or random nonsense that has nothing to do with the story/fandom, though.

Yeah, I don't do that. The canon I wrote in is big and messy; I did some pick and choose and stitch and spackle, and mostly used author's notes primarily to explain what I did and why for certain plot elements.

I've recently been reading a fic where the AN are basically historical footnotes. At first I was like wtf is with the history lessons at the end of chapter, but I appreciated the research the author put in for their story, so i don't mind. I generally scroll past unless I was curious about something in particular. It certainly didn't detract from the story itself.

I'm suddenly wondering if I'm reading your fic....if I am, I really like it! And I appreciate the attention to detail (also the last chapter I read had me ways, I did not expect that twist!).

For vague reference, it's an anime/manga fandom...the pairing is not Canon. Am i reading your fic?

Nope, not mine -- I put all my notes at the end of the fic for easier ScrollPast.

But hey, it's good you're reading one you're enjoying!
