Transcript: I had to stop going into the tags. The shipping wank was pissing me off too much. Hartwin was a subtexty accident. To think otherwise is just RIDICULOUS. Just cause you ship something doesn't mean the director is Q-baiting you. Especially when he deliberately removed the scene that made it look like actual text. (I say this as a person who does ship it!! Also, stop shitting on Tilde, pls and thnx. Not cool, fandom. We're supposed to be past this.) Bonus!secret: 90% of the tag being "Imagine" posts certainly didn't keep me hanging around, either....

I haven't seen the movie, so I don't have any idea whether or not its text or subtext or anything. But I'm really not sure that I follow your argument. If there was originally a scene that made it look like text, and they intentionally removed that scene, but left in a lot of scenes that feel more subtext-y, that doesn't really sound very accidental to me. That actually sounds pretty intentional.

Again, I'm just going off what you wrote here and it's entirely possible I've misunderstood something.

Or, it could be that they didn't really realize just how subtexty/texty it was until they got into the editing bay. Reshoots are expensive, so maybe they took the path of least resistance and cut the most textual bit and did their best with what they had to tell the story they wanted to tell.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe, I guess. But it seems like that would be really hard to distinguish from intentional queerbaiting. I mean, it would basically be some kind of accidental queerbaiting at that point. And I'm not sure how mad I could get at fans for responding to something that's functionally indistinguishable from queerbaiting.

I'm looking at the names and I can't even figure out who these people were and I saw the movie. Is Hart = Roxie?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Harry Hart is Colin Firth's character and the -win part is Eggsy Unwin.

And while I agree that wankers need to chill, there was a hell of a lot of subtext for something that was 'accidental'. Including a deleted scene of Eggsy staying in Harry's home and wearing his housecoat after his supposed death.

....You know, the only people's whose names I knew in that movie were Eggsy, Roxy, Valentine, and Gazelle, I just called half these people by their actor names. I didn't even realize it until now. Thanks.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha. Man, I was sad Gazelle died.

Sofia was the only reason I watched it tbh and seeing the next movie's previews and stuff I just keep going "SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED!"

(Anonymous) 2017-09-16 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
The only part of this movie I've even seen when it comes up on TV is where Colin Firth is dead and the younger dude is in what I assumed was Colin Firth's house and is sad. I do not remember if a housecoat was involved.

I wish people would go back to just doing name/name because then you don't have to decipher smushed up ship names. Nobody calls Eggsy "Unwin" in the movie (that I recall) so why should that be part of his ship name? Same that Harry was either Harry or his Round Table name. What's wrong with Harry/Eggsy? Bam, no explanations needed as to who is involved.

Stepping off soapbox now.

right, like Kingsman is a graphic novel and I"m sure they mention Eggy's surname there but in the movie it's maybe once in the beginning re: his father.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen this countless times and I cannot decipher your shipnames and it's bothering me. I feel like I should know exactly who you're talking about but I have literally no idea.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
For people confused: Harry Hart and Eggsy Unwin have the ship name Hartwin.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Just here to say that "Imagine..." posts clogging up basically all the ship tags of every ship ever is super annoying.

Otherwise... this is another Arthur/Eames situation for me where the fandom creams itself and then I finally watch it and think "That's it?".

(Anonymous) 2017-09-16 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen Kingsman, but agreed on Arthur/Eames. I finally got around to watching Inception a few years after the movie came out. All I knew is that it was about dreams and that the entire fandom was mad for Arthur/Eames. And I really liked the movie, and I really liked Arthur, and I really liked Eames. But I didn't see anything like the OMG OTP that I had been expecting.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-16 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Jep, same. Hell, I thought Cobb/Arthur was a more "realistic" slash ship than Arthur/Eames if you were desperately looking for one.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing as they spend most of the movie apart with Harry in the hospital and Eggsy in training, and then soon after Harry dies, I never got into this ship. Just because Harry took Eggsy shopping and tossed him into the program doesn't make a ship.

But then I've seen people ship characters who never appear in a single scene together.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-16 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Imagines and x Reader stuff clogging up the tags just makes me very unhappy. :/
