What the hell is a clussy?

I'm trying to read authors who have a full redemption arc for Controversial Bad Guy and "acknowledge his flaws," and honestly, it all seems like overkill to me. I don't think he's nearly as evil as they portray him, and I don't think he needs "redemption" so much as he needs a friend who can break through his self-loathing. Apparently, that means I'm "woobifying" him and being blind to his misdeeds because he's hot.

Which villain btw?

Honestly there's no need to even pay it any mind if you're not a wanker. Anything that gets dropped there without any sort of proof gets shot down pretty fast.

People who shoot down headcanons.

As long as someone with the headcanon isn't insisting upon everyone else following it or harassing the creators of a fandom to make it canon, it's not hurting anybody.

A disability or mental illness headcanon does not "ruin" a character and does not affect you.

A headcanon about a character's past does not "ruin" them and does not affect you either.

Agreed, with another note:

Harassing individuals in headcanon wars are not an effective form of social justice activism.

As long as someone with the headcanon isn't insisting upon everyone else following it or harassing the creators of a fandom to make it canon, it's not hurting anybody.

That's the rub, though. A lot of people with ~progressive headcanons do force them on others and try to rag on you if you don't follow it. I myself have been viciously harrassed for drawing Harry Potter as white, having not known that the prevailing headcanon is that he should be Indian, and fairly dark-skinned.

So I absolutely agree that people with headcanons who only share them and enjoy them themselves are 100% fine and dandy, that is incredibly often not the case.

I agree with this. However, I also think one should be able to post on their own platform about why they don't personally like a particular popular headcanon that's going around. And as long as their post isn't attacking others for liking it, they shouldn't get attacked for talking about why they don't like it.

I read some fanfic last night that really pissed me off, and I wanted to tell the author, but I am a big fucking chicken.
It had like 10,000 words of "and then the big evil wizarding world, including Ron and Hermione, fucked over poor innocent bby Harry Potter, who never saw it coming, except for all the enormous neon warning signs and all the people explicitly telling him shit was coming". How can anyone enjoy reading OR writing that sort of bullshit?

Funny. People who actually follow through and lecture the author about how "wrong" their fanfiction is instead of just closing the tab or back-buttoning out are who I'd rant about.

I feel you, OP. It's probably better that you didn't say anything, since it sounds like this author didn't actually do anything wrong. But I've definitely read fic before where the viewpoint of the person writing it was so biased it felt unhinged, and every word of their fic was clearly designed as an attack on the original text for some perceived failure or injustice it perpetrated upon the author's fave.

I just cannot deal with how overdramatic people are about seeing a ship they don't like on their dash. If your mood gets so affected by just seeing a fictional relationship you don't like, you need to touch grass.

On the one hand, I have a couple of NOTPs that I find seriously squicky or borderline-triggering on a bad day, so I can't fault anyone who gets upset if they're blindsided by shit on their dash.

On the other hand, tumblr savior and the scroll button is a thing that exists, along with various browser extensions. Throwing a public hissy fit is tacky af and anyone who freaks out about shipping needs to spend less time on the internet and more time outside.
