Wait until you see the stuff about Pennywise! I saw someone have to explain why making a monster that eats babies and gleefully watches a gay man get assaulted is not the best icon for genderfluidity out there.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-20 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The Pennywise stuff got pushed back pretty quickly, though, from what I saw. And it's much dumber than the Babadook stuff which is pretty harmless ultimately even if it is annoying.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
OP

The worst part is that people are shipping Pennywise and Babadook???? I THINK???

WHICH IS JUST WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
honestly, as a joke between mostly not-straight fandom peeps of pennywise being lgbt whatever isn't that big of a deal. it's not like anti-gay people in the mainstream will use it as leverage or the movie itself is upholding it as representation.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Why not?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-20 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of those things where fandom thinks it's soooooo hilarious but it just seems dumb to me and it got super old super fast.

So basically, it's Tunalock.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-20 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Tunalock is still hilarious. It wasn't trying to be progressive or some bullshit. It was good ol' fashioned crack.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-20 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, ever -lock doesn't strike me as all that funny.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I just googled that.

WTF?

You write that like you've never heard of Supernatural's fandom.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-20 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Or Snapewives. Or the sexbox that fans gave to Michael Rosenbaum when he was Lex on Smallville. There will always be people in fandom who take things way, way too far. There will always be people in life who take things way, way too far (see every meme ever).

They may not have. We're getting old, Anon.

ayrt

You may have a point. (In a few years, it's going to be, "Back in my day, fandom was way more extreme. Why, I remember when people got married to characters on the astral plane! And kinkmemes were filled with RPF bestiality and extreme underage! Nowadays, they have no idea of what it means to take it too far. Get off my lawn!")

Sexbox? Do I wanna know?

OP

I have heard of Snapewives.

BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF PEOPLE HOLDING UP A LITERAL PREDATORY SHIP AS SOME KIND OF GLBT ICON

Like, Pennywise/Babadook WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE

(Anonymous) 2017-09-20 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
okay... can someone explain what this is? I'm totally lost.

[personal profile] thezmage 2017-09-21 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
The Babadook was accidentally classified by Netflix as an LGBT movie, so people jokingly started claiming that the titular Babadook was a gay icon

People turning a silly mistake on Netflix into a joke for like a month is too far?

I mean it wasn't the funniest meme I ever saw but it was pretty harmless.

Right...people sure do get ruffled by things. It's cool to find a joke boring but what is 'too goddamn far' about it?

I really do not get that joke at all.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
The whole Babadook is gay thing wasn't that funny. I was genuinely surprised it seemed to go on as long as it did.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
...isn't Pennywise's true form a female spider?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
shh shh, don't tell 'em yet.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-21 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
In fairness, that's why he's being heralded as a "genderfluid" icon, because he clearly enjoys/prefers his male clown form even if his true form is a lady arachnoabomination. Except that actual genderfluid persons don't exactly want to be associated with a baby-eating pedobeast. Thus the discourse.
