103 As usual, it's a few people who make it hard for the rest, so the few people who say that all the slashers are going to hell and are harming their fandoms (this was something that went around intermittently in HP) give the religious fans a bad name. Personally, I'm tired of some people on my flist equating atheism and intelligence, but I'm not interested in arguing that point anymore.

109 That might be my favorite SPN secret ever.

123 This is like that crying over fictional dead people secret from yesterday. In real life you process events differently than in fiction or celebrity gossip. For your friend, you probably knew that everything wasn't awesome anyway, or that your being upset wouldn't help her, etc. Fictional and celebrity lives are simple. Real life is complicated.

126 For me it's the facial hair, but also that he was quiet rather than manic, that he wasn't spazzing all over the place. He might be like that in "Dan in Real Life" as well; I haven't seen that one yet. But facial hair looks smashing on him!

140 Don't let anyone make you feel like a bad fan. It's one of the dumber things fandom can do, to insist that you must like things in a certain way—either super intellectually, or very superficially, or exactly as the creators might have you, depending on the fandom. The only thing I can think of that really makes someone a bad fan is like, giving actors/writers/etc copies of nc17 fanfiction when they didn't ask for it, or being a creepy stalker. Other than that? Like what you like however you want to like it!

172 You've hit on why I really can't watch American episodic dramas anymore, because the narrative follows all kinds of practical considerations (availability of actors, creators leaving shows, networks messing about in search of ratings, etc) and in a show with a continuing story it's so distracting. I'm being driven back to books, seriously. (I know, horrors!) Well, also manga, but those are books.

I really believe that the writers were so into the idea of Milo being on their show that they didn't even care about prior characterisation. How is anybody supposed to take a show seriously when almost two seasons of character development can be thrown away that easily?

Frustrating. Stick to your books. *nod nod*

The best part is, a few years later it turned out that two of those "Christians" were actually made up by one of the HP fans in order to draw attention to herself (http://www.journalfen.net/community/bad_penny/1448.html). (Scroll down to "March 2003 - MsScribe and Fermatojam".)

While it's definitely nice to know that people no longer see my name and immediately think of my connection to Dionne, I'm more familiar with that particular "narrative" than I'd like to have been, believe me.

Anyway, I wasn't talking about that at all. I was really referring to some issues that came up at Fiction Alley Park, and the bad old days when we had to warn for slash.
