103. Does your God/goddess/spirit force prefer you hiding behind little text messages on Livejournal or, like, speaking up for yourself?

Just curious.

I see a lot of people who say they value their beliefs, but they don't stand up for themselves--not really. If this is of serious spiritual importance to you, why don't you say it aloud?

I have a friend who lives in a Muslim country. To be anything less is illegal for a citizen of his nation. He can't say what he really feels and believes. If you're not in his situation, you should be thankful, and consider the options you actually have.

I'm sorry, because while I'm sure you didn't mean to come across this way, I don't appreciate an extreme situation like that being used to justify mocking another person or dismissing them because of their beliefs.

The plight of people in circumstances like the one you described is very real; I'm not by any means trivializing that. But, even though I am privileged enough to live in a country that for all intents and purposes accepts me, that does not mean I am going to sit by and allow people to discount me, my opinion, or other people who believe the way I do. It's wrong. That's all there is to it. Whether or not the situation is worse somewhere else (which, again, I recognize and respect that it is) has no place in reference to this particular secret.

This may just be me, but I feel the OP is more concerned that fandom, which often praises itself (generally speaking) as being completely open and accepting of new ideas/ways of thinking/etc., often turns its back on people who admit to believing in some sort of supernatural force, whether or not it actually affects their participation in fandom itself.

Again, I'm sorry if this comes across as overly harsh, and if I need to clarify anything, please ask. This is something I feel very strongly about.

Okay, I need to see examples of this because all I've ever seen is people addressing the idiots who use their religion (I've only seen Christians do this, but I'm not saying that other's don't) to bash someone's kink.

I'm sorry, I don't have any concrete examples on-hand. But I will say that I've also seen what you're talking about, and that it's just as wrong. No one should be needlessly bashed for what they believe in and/or enjoy, and frankly it makes me sick to my stomach to know that there are people who profess to believe the same things I do treating people that way.

Just last week in one of the comments to a secret there were people A. mocking religion for no real reason, and B. saying that religious people shouldn't even BE part of fandom because it's disturbing.
Lovely stuff to read.

Maybe the OP just doesn't like to be dogpiled? And anyway the OP is talking about the online fandom so either OP thinks fandomsecrets is a good public announcement board or the non-religious hoards will flame OP.

:) the beauty of internet, huh?
If this was the Real World, maybe I would write a newspaper article, for example. I doubt that I'd get up in public on a stage and start shouting.
My friends and the people I know - they know I'm religious and proud of it. When the issue comes up IRL, I don't 'hide behind little text messages' either. But on the internet everybody hides behind the text; that's the point.
As such, I feel that stating my opinion anonymously really makes no difference, and f!s is a venue where many people would see it, and maybe one or two of them will stop and think next time they start bashing for no reason.
Or maybe not, but one can always hope.
