XD I loved that development in the manga!
It's also very realistic, I mean, hello, people will grow eventually... the fact that he was on the short side at 14 doesn't mean he'll be that way forever.
(I think the anime was just afraid to actually get rid of that gag, or something, because having him grow is kinda obvious, when you think about it)

It's not that I didn't, I don't know, expect it; characters in manga & anime so rarely show the signs of growing up that it's surprising to see when you do see it.
