But in my LJ I feel that I've made it more than clear that I'm looking for debate and always felt that that in itself should make it clear that I don't consider myself an authority - just someone who wants to talk about this very frivolous subject in a very in-depth way. I care a lot about the characters, and I know other people do, and if people don't want to do hardcore geeky balls-to-the-wall analytical discussion with me, that's fine; I just thought people knew that that was what I was after.
I definitely know that things snowball, which was why I probably shouldn't have responded in the first place. But I'm actually glad having gotten to talk to you, and I am interested in making myself more clear in the future, because I'll admit that I must not have presented myself clearly enough in the past. I suppose it comes from my old assumption that most of the people who are reading my journal are just people who have always been reading my journal and who know me well enough to know what I'm going for. ^^;

So yes, I'm willing to admit that I misinterpreted your intention due to your use of language. And I'm glad this discussion has led to you realising how easily some of these things can be (and have been) misinterpreted. Not that I believe you should start second guessing everything you say on the net (I certainly didn't), but that you should simply keep in mind the multiple ways you could come across to people just through the way you word things.
Sometimes these communication issues are all it takes to start a shitstorm of almost epic proportions (luckily we avoided that.)

Thanks once again for being so civil with me, since I honestly wasn't trying to start drama. I wasn't feeling dramatic when I posted, and I didn't think it got very dramatic, but apparently any discussion here is drama. *shrug*
I don't plan on always second-guessing myself of course, but I've realized from this discussion that I'm speaking to a much bigger audience than I always assumed that I was and that my usual abrasive ethos probably won't go down so hot with people who haven't known me a while. That's what I get for assuming that I'm the public access of KH fanfic cable.

KH fandom is weird in that people seem to hang out in different pockets all over the place (I assume this is probably the same in other large fandoms too, but can't say for sure as KH is the first one I've really been involved in.) To get a rough idea of your overall potential audience though, it's easy to look at the amount of members in the comms you post your fics to. Not saying for sure that every single person reads them or looks at your journal, but khyaoi alone has over 2000 members. At the risk of making an obvious statement, that's quite a lot of people.
Personally, I always assume there's at least 5 more 'invisible' people cruising past me and making opinions without actually saying anything at all, let alone saying it to my face, but that's from past experience. I've also been called... well, less tactful words for 'abrasive', so I suppose we prickly types tend to stick in people's teeth more. Can be unfortunate, depending on the situation. But that's the case with everything on the internet, I guess.
