Re: Do you think "everyone is bi" is to a degree true?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-30 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)It's the difference between getting sad sometimes, and having depression. Everyone can feel sad sometimes, or hopeless, or empty, etc. etc. but you wouldn't say "Everyone's depressed." Basically if you're not attracted to multiple genders enough to notice, then you're not bi.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-01 02:19 am (UTC)(link)The thing is, I can absolutely believe that there are people who are 100% gay/straight without exceptions. What I find suspect is people who declare this as a FACT about themselves.
I mean, there's nothing wrong with saying, "I've never been attracted to a man/woman before." There's not anything wrong with saying "I can't really imagine being attracted to a man/woman." But to say, "I could never be attracted to a man/woman" is just...that's not something anyone can 100% know for a fact, and when someone feels compelled to state it as a fact it makes it seem like they're afraid someone will think "the wrong thing" about them.
OTOH, if it's a gay person stating they could never be attracted to a person of the opposite gender, that's different, I think, than a straight person saying it. Mainly because I think if a gay person says it, they're probably saying it because they're worried that if they allow even the tiniest possibility they could ever be attracted to someone of the opposite gender, people will use that to try to invalidate their identity as a gay person. Which is an awful but understandable worry.
