I think it's one or a combination of:

1) People are just into it for teh lulz and they aren't serious, i.e. the whole "Babadook is gay" meme.

2) The hotness of Bill Skarsgard and/or clowns.

3) Rule 34!

4) People trying to make a thing that's kind of scary into something that's humorous or not at all scary as a means of dealing with the horror aspect of it.

Idk I just take it as the usual rule34 tbh, it's certainly no stranger than some of the other things I've seen people be into online.

Plus I think some of it is more for the lulz than actually being serious.

I balk at romance in mystery novels, too, especially when it's some love triangle type deal with a bad boy and a boring guy because you know some new evidence is going to pop up in the last chapter where SURPRISE turns out the boring one is the murderer

I'm not certain of that. It's not like we have a huge number of Kylo Ren fans on FS, much less hardcore fans that get that defensive about it. This isn't tumblr.

Listen, this gets on my nerves, too. It drives me crazy that I can't find fic where the villain is *gasp*villainous. Because that's why I've got the hots for them! That's the whole erotic appeal!

But I try to remember that other people are just out there having their own kind of fun. *shrug*

It bothered me when people turned Hannibal Lecter from Hannibal into cute and fuzzy romantic fics. Not because of romanticizing him, but because it wasn't him at all, basically they might as well be using an OC, so I didn't understand it. Thus, I can understand where you're coming from even if I'm not in this fandom. On the other hand, while I couldn't understand it and often found it annoying, it wasn't hurting anyone, so live and let live. I hope you can find fics that work for you while others explore the fics that they want.

ugh it pisses me off too!

Like, I don't get any of it, but I can give a pass to 'oh yeah, I want this demonic shapeshifting monster to fuck me up in a sex way'. The 'imagine Penny nibbling on your fingers, but not to hurt you! Just because he loves you!' stuff is like... first of all, incomprehensible to me, and second of all, gross to me on a level so visceral I don't even understand it.

It's a far more severe squick than the regular clownfuckers.

(I mean... I'm not attracted to Bill either, but like, I get how some people who are would then just be attracted to any character he played. Although I have to say I was wildly attracted to Tim Curry but I never fuckin' wanted to bang Pennywise!)

I *really* do not get the Pennywise joke.obsession/meme whatever it is. It's got to the stage where I've just blacklisted the clown, but it's pretty much impossible to do that with "It".
