Ooh, for The Giver, there are three more books in the series (Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son). You can find out what happens to Jonas in Messenger.

Son was pretty decent. I mainly liked it because my childhood OTP became canon and I couldn't believe it.

Also Lois Lowry herself said that she meant it to be an optimistic ending, even before she wrote the other books.

(At the time I read it I took it for a very pessimistic ending, but I'm like that.)
