Chinese Take Out

(Anonymous) 2017-10-02 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not a huge fan of Chinese food. I usually get Sweet and sour chicken with the sweet and sour on the side (so essentially chicken nuggets).

What should I try if I don't like soy sauce, vinegar tasting stuff, or beef.

Do you like spicy food? If not:

moo shoo pork
garlic chicken
szechaun chicken
moo goo gai pan

Haha, well looking at my own recs I listed some spicy dishes anyway, so that's just as well. Moo shoo pork and moo goo gai pan aren't spicy, FWIW. The former is basically thinly sliced pork and vegetables that you eat wrapped up in a tortilla-like pancake. Moo goo gai pan is just... chicken in a white sauce. It's a bit on the bland side tbh, but a lot of people who aren't crazy about Chinese food can take it because it's not very highly seasoned.

I'm kind of confused about the not liking vinegar, because that's essentially what gives "sweet and sour" dishes the sour flavor. That said, perhaps General Tso's chicken? You're going to have a hard time finding Chinese dishes without soy sauce in them too, though many of them don't have soy sauce as the only flavor or the predominant flavor. It'll also taste better than those nasty soy sauce packets you get in take out, too.

chow mein and all other kinds of noodle dishes and noodle soups. gosh i love some good-ass chinese noodles. just gimme that shit all the time.

also twice cooked pork, mapo tofu, dry braised string beans (with pork). if you like spicy stuff there's probably going to be lots of good sichuan style stuff out there for you i guess.

idk

Before I was vegetarian, Peanut Chicken or General Tsao (sp?) chicken was the shit!

Now I'm stuck with whatever vegetable tofu dish there is.

any seafood or veggie dish with not a lot of soy sauce would probably work

Potstickers/dumplings? Maybe a meal of appetizers, includign egg rolls and things.

Personally, I like sesame [meat - usually chicken]. It tends to be similar to sweet and sour but spicier.

I usually get chicken or vegetarian Mei Fun (thin rice noodles), chicken and broccoli with white sauce instead of the usual soy sauce base, pork lo mein, dumplings, spring rolls, eggrolls, and fried rice.
