Wow, I'd be fighting to hold myself back.

Even if she does have authority over fanfiction, your blog was your blog, not the AO3/ff.net of food projects. She has a lot of nerve dropping criticisms that weren't even asked for.

Man, BNFs are a menace. Once in the Ye Old Fandom Days I promoted a rarepair blog on a blog I maintained that the BNF was a fan of. She proceeded to dramatically and publicly leave the fandom, explicitly stating that rarepair blog as the reason. Thus setting all the people who were up her arse on me, my co-mod, and the mods of that rarepair blog. Plus all the comments on her leaving notice were all about how terrible and inconsiderate we all were. Bad times.

In one of my fandoms there was a BNF like that. She had her opinions on fandom but to her they were facts, not opinions, and she loved "correcting" people. It drove me up a fucking wall. I think she stayed out of cooking discussions though so at least there's that.

God, some BNFs don't seem to have much of a life outside of fandom. I think that's why they try to leverage being a big fish in a small pond to influence other things, too. I once saw a BNF lecture her whole friendslist about how they were elitist snobs if they didn't watch Korean soap operas because unlike American ones they're sooooo amazing blah blah blah...and maybe if you didn't you might be a little racist, too. Mind you, that wasn't our fandom at all, it's completely unrelated. She was 100% serious.

That's some damn good cherry pie.

BNFs need to be told to "fuck off" more often and by a lot more people.

Pie recipe???

(Anonymous) 2017-10-04 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Please, OP! I love Pie! bonus points if you make your own crust (my dough is never flaky :/ )

I'll try your recipe!!!

Not OP, but before making pie crust, put your flour and butter in the freezer. I don't have measurements because I don't stick to the same crust recipe every time, but, if you have a food processor, put the cold flour into the processor bowl, cut each stick of frozen butter into 8 slices or so, dump them into the processor with the flour (and salt, sugar, spices, whatever other dry ingredients the recipe calls for, and pulse the butter into the flour until it's broken into little bits, but some bigger chunks are fine. Then dribble in the ice cold water, or vodka, or whatever the recipe uses, pulse a couple more times, and dump onto a clean work surface. Gather the dough into a rough ball, or two, wrap, and shove in the freezer while you rinse the processor bowl.

If you don't have a food processor, it's annoying, but grate frozen butter into the flour by hand with a box or cheese grater, then dribble in cold liquid and mix with a fork, then gather into a ball, wrap, and shove in the freezer. Keep your rolling pin and work surface cold. I find rolling dough put between sheets of parchment paper easier because my hands don't warm it up. When you roll the dough out and put it in a pie plate, put that back in the freezer while you preheat the oven, too. And make sure your oven temperature won't melt the fat out of your crust and leave a greasy mess. Good luck.
