I am so fucking sick of AUs.

AUs that are canon divergent, but still in-universe? Okay. Those are cool.

But for fuck's sake I feel in love with these characters in a certain setting and I would like them to stay there, because the setting is part of what makes them who they are. I don't want to read about them being vampires or werewolves or foreign correspondents or master chefs, but that is suddenly all the fuck there is.

(And yes, I write my own fic that is in-universe, so I am doing the thing, but you know, sometimes you just want to read)

What fics are you reading that people are foreign correspondents? lol

tbf, I read an AU a few months ago where the characters were a US presidential candidate and his aide/part of his campaign team. It was actually pretty good. I don't recall if they kept specific in universe things -- like magic, but yeah. They manage to make even their nationalities work within their AU frame. I was very surprised that I enjoyed it.

Foreign correspondents AU actually sounds pretty interesting.

Same. (And it's so hard to filter out the second kind without missing the first kind, which I really enjoy if they're well-done.
