I would obviously never say this to her, but I'm sick to death of my friend complaining about how her depression is triggered by the fact that she will never be perfect at her chosen pastime. We're talking two or three posts a day.

Meanwhile she doesn't give a crap about anyone else's mental health and has even ignored her best friend who is having a tough time with their family after coming out as trans. Said best friend called me instead in floods of tears.

She's basically a self-involved borderline narcissist at this point.

Yeah, that's something she needs to address with a good therapist. Being depressed by not having unrealistic expectations fulfilled isn't reasonable. Ironically, if she quit complaining and dedicated all that time and energy to practicing her chosen pastime, I bet she could at least improve if not achieve perfection.

Maybe you don't want to call her out, but you also don't have to feed her selfish need for attention.

No one is perfect. She's going to have to deal with that somehow.
