YES. I totally agree. It was especially clear after the last episode (Midnight) in that one scene, where Jack was not mentioned at ALL.

The awesomeness of the name probably would have been too much for the alien to handle. That is all. That or the Doctor doesn't like to think about Jack in case he breaks down into tears at how much he misses such an AWESOME COMPANION.
I feel better now :)

The male companions in New Who are kinda getting the short end of the stick here. Sure, they traveled with the Doctor for a shorter period of time, but they were still riding around in the Tardis with him and Rose.

(The only one I wouldn't call a companion is Adam, because...he was an idiot, and the Doctor never really wanted him there anyway. And he barely survived one trip anyway. FAIL.)
