Old fandoms don't die. Ever. LotR, Doctor Who, and Star Trek went through decades of obscurity before bursting on the scene again. And I'll tell you what, when they came back, the fans were waiting for them. Seriously: when FotR came out in 2001, it had been thirty years since LotR had been visible on any popular front, but I tell you, I and my fellow LotR geeks were there, faithfully, at the front of the line for our seats in the theater, happily talking hobbits and ents and silmarils like it'd all been published yesterday.

Welcome to the world of Old Fandoms. When all the annoying fangirls/fanboys have long since faded away and old wank has turned into running gags. (Do Balrogs have wings? >:D) The true fans never go away, they just huddle in the background and delight in the thing everybody else forgot.
