...Uh, between you and me, I find Martha's story to be UPLIFTING. Because she had the strength to stay by the Doctor's side for as long as she did, knowing he didn't feel the same, and then had the strength to leave.

So much agreement. They're ALL awesome. (Though I have to admit I like the watered down "kiddie" Doctor Who version of Jack from Season 1 so much better than Torchwood!Jack)

Actually, so do I. I like Torchwood, but I like the supporting cast way more than Jack. My favorite character on the show is Toshiko, and then Ianto. I miss S1!Jack. I suppose because Torchwood!Jack is a lot angstier and has a lot more baggage; that makes for some interesting character development, but the old, easy-going Jack of S1 was more to my liking.

Same. Character development is one thing, but changing he character's demeanor is another :|

Well, it was also what a ridiculous ASSHAT he became. (I haven't even touched S2 because by the end of S1 I hated Torchwood with a burning passion.) I mean, no, he was doing shitty things by being a conman in DW, but he was charming and fun and funny, and that was all stripped away in Torchwood.
