Re: Bite me, Eff you, and other idioms
(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)This is why I'm always fine with people saying that they could care less.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)But it makes no sense! It literally means the exact opposite of what you are trying to get across. It's not a phrase like "bite me" or "fuck you"; it is an actual phrase with meaning to it. I never call anyone out on it, but I definitely take their opinions at less value because of it.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)Like how lots of different cultures have the language pattern of salad-salad ('would you like pasta salad or chicken salad or egg salad or salad-salad?') or repetition for emphasis or rhyming for emphasis, or how if a phase is said sarcastically enough it changes common use meaning (nimrod being a compliment originally)
I mean even 'I could care less' is where a mistake has been made so many times it becomes more well known than the correct version.
Re: Bite me, Eff you, and other idioms
(Anonymous) 2017-10-16 04:29 am (UTC)(link)I mean they don't have to make sense in a literal, logical way.
