Overall Shipping Tendencies

Are most of your ships OTPs, Multi-ships, Fandom Bicycles or something else? What kind of shipper are you overall?

I fall in love with one person and I ship them with everything (and read all the gen fic about them). I rarely ship outside of who ever my fave is.

Pretty much.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

Definitely am a multi-shipper sort. I have pairings that are my personal favorites in all my fandoms, in the sense that they're the ones I'd read and write the most fics about and the ones I'd be most happy to see become canon if the shows ever wanted to go that way (or if they are canon, I'm happy that they're canon).

But even then, there's still other pairings I enjoy with the characters from my favorite pairings, too. Which probably answers the fandom bicycle question, then :p. I just like the variety of dynamics among the characters in my fandoms, and love exploring and mix and matching where possible :D.

I'm an OTP'er type overall, sometimes I can multi-ship each(or both) parts of my OTP, but more often than not I won't want to split them up at all and just want them to be together forever.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-17 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Generally OTPs. If I ship something, it's usually because I really like both characters individually and I really like their relationship with each other. It's a high bar to clear. So it usually just doesn't work for me to try and ship one of those characters with someone else.

multi-shipper

If they hate each other or shouldn't be together for some reason, I'M THERE.

Slash OTPs. I will read other ships, fanfic is a normal part of engaging with fiction for me, but still have my one and only. I honestly do not know why some of them grab me harder than others. I think it's more about where I am in my life than anything else. It's ALWAYS opposites attract though.

Depends on the fandom. My strongest ships are OTPs, but some share a character albeit in a different time period. Some fandoms like MCU and Buffy I multi-ship. I have some fandom bicycles (well, mostly just two, Mairon and Steve Rogers).

I tend to have a favorite character and an OTP relationship(s) for that person but I also am interested in other relationships they could have so I will read other relationships for my fave as long as it's not an NOTP.

I also have several OTPs that I enjoy making OT3s with most of the other characters in canon. I like variety but I also like my faves to have each other, so I usually just add to the OTP. Often the OT3s are triangles focused on my fave character.

I've never had a NOTP. I think anyone and everyone can be shipped if you're clever enough about the premise and execution!

OTPs/OT3s, I'm too damn monogamous for my own good. If I ever get close to multi-shipping, my brain goes "Nope, OT3 now!". Like when Pepper Potts/Tony Stark became Bruce Banner/Pepper Potts/Tony Stark after the Avengers.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
If I like a pairing I don't ship them with other people.

I don't dislike fic or art for other pairings or tell people their ship sucks or anything, I just have no interest in seeing fanworks with other pairings.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

Mostly OTPs, but there are a few cases where I ship A/B and B/C and am always going back and forth over which I like better.

As far as what kind of shipper overall, I almost always ship things that have a nearly 0% chance of becoming canon (I know that that's what fanfic is for, but I don't know, there's just something nice about a ship you like being canon). The few times I've shipped canon couples, either one (or sometimes both) of them died, they had a horrible breakup and ended up hating each other, or the show was canceled after one season.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
A few OTPs, a couple OT3s, and a multiship that started as "I hate one half of this canon pairing so much I'll ship the other half with almost anyone else" and snowballed until it resembled a fandom bicycle.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
In general, I tend to be an OTP'er. But sometimes I can go for an OT3 or pairing off the characters with other characters. It just depends on the characters.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'll have a character I really like, and basically turn them into my bicycle.

Of course, I'll ride out one ship until I dig another. i.e. HermionexDraco, few months later, HermionexLucius (Remus, whoever I'm digging next).

While reading fics, I find side pairings that I'm all about (like GinnyxBlaise or LunaxBlaise). I usually won't go out of my way for fic, but I enjoy it casually.

I also generally ship enemies to lovers, heroxvillian, humanxmonster...you get the picture. I usually ship age gaps too (all adults tho).

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a hardcore OTP shipper. I fall hard for a ship, and then I obsess over them to distraction for years. I do ship other pairings (in other fandoms) at the same time, but with all the other pairings I just really like them and they give me feels and I might dabble in reading some fanfic if there is any that's good. Whereas with my OTP, I am OBSESSED. I read all the fic I can get, and my standards go out the window; if the fic involves my OTP (and none of my squicks) then I will read it, and I will like it, because holy shit I love my OTP so much it's ridiculous.

Then, eventually, I move on to a new OTP, and once that happens I just don't feel the same way about the old one anymore. I wish I did, but I don't.

At the moment I'm going on six years with my current OTP.

Also, if I ship two characters together, I will never, ever ship them with anybody else. That goes for my secondary ships as well as my OTP.

This is me. This is so, so me.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I like knowing there are other fans who are like me out there. Hanging out on F!S always makes me feel like I'm alone in a sea of fans who are crazy flexible about what they're into and will ship anyone with anyone. Which is a totally legit kind of fannishness, but which I can't relate to at all.

I mean, I honest to god look back on my past OTPs in a similar way to how a lot of people look back on past relationships of their own - the eras created by each OTP, and the experiences of living with each OTP in my head are so distinct.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the fandom. I have a type of dynamic I like, the snarky genius-type with a tank-type. So if there's a lot of ways to mix and match that in a fandom I tend to have a lot of different ships, but if there's only one real matchup I stick to that

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really have an overall pattern; I've got some OTPs and OT3s, a pairing that I ship both as a twosome and in pretty much any threesome, some fandom bicycles and some multiships like "The Avengers + Loki" and "U.N.I.T. Dating Controversy."

But if there are two former friends turned enemies (Doctor/Master, 006/007, Stucky) I will be ALL OVER THAT.

Re: Overall Shipping Tendencies

(Anonymous) 2017-10-18 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I tend to have one major OTP, and a slew of side-ships involving all the other characters besides them. So I'll have A/B, and not be able to ship either one of them with anyone else, but I'll have C/D, C/F, D/E, C/D/E, E/F and so on. I'm pretty satisfied with that, usually!

I'm a bit sad rn though because my current OTP, while very popular, has a huge tendency to be part of a moresome and I'm just... not into it at all. And I hate that the OTP gets tagged in stuff when they actually mean the moresome. Like, I get it, it's a component, but... I feel like pairings and threesomes/moresomes/what-have-you are fundamentally different ships.

OTPs for a few big favs, multi-ships for the rest. Also I'm fond of threesomes.

Mostly trying to queer up something in the text, if there's not already something there.
