Evil characters who fall in love or join the "good guys" but struggle with the fact that they're habitually evil and not actually all that convinced that Good is the smart way to go and are forever annoyed by it

Vegeta from DB is pretty interesting in canon for this

I like this dynamic too. I think it's especially difficult these days, since a lot of fic seems to skew towards cute and cinnamon roll.

You make me want to write something. That's a great [somewhat/mostly] unexplored part of the dynamic of hero/villain ships. Alternatively, a hero who starts questioning the good they're doing because of the villain they are with.

LOL, this sounds like my friend's character in our long-running D&D campaign.

Also like Belkar in Order of the Stick (again with the D&D), although the strip began with him in the party already, not being a former antagonist.
