I can't judge. I've been guilty of this in the past. Something about the constant toxic spewing that turns me off, especially the disturbing glee they get when something unfortunate happens to the character. Not because the character did anything to "deserve" it, but just because they hate the character.

Obviously, I tried not to let it ruin the friendship (because -- really?), but I definitely understand how it's annoying to hear, especially when they're so dramatic about their hate.

Agree on a lot of points. He's definitely Thingol, not Thranduil, which will be really awkward whenever they end up making Silmarillion and really annoys me in Tolkien fandom because they take characterization from the movies but don't label it right. I want the elf I love from the book.

I wanted to like him more in the movies because I really like Lee Pace. However, the eyebrows did not work at all with the rest of the elf-getup. I also thought some of the clothing didn't work either. But, overall, he was a better elf than any of the LOTR group.

TBH, there just aren't that many really well-written relationships (canon or non-canon) between female characters. Female characters rarely get enough interesting interaction on-screen for them to have the kind of chemistry male characters get with each other all the time. It's really frustrating.
