Aww, wow, I'm shocked and humbled by all the sweet responses in this thread?? I was really expecting a lot of "get over it, OP!!" responses tbh.

In her defense, this particular character is very volatile and unkind at times in the canon story, I just relate heavily to his childhood trauma/abuse, so it's a touchy subject for me from the get-go. I have to be honest, I'm probably projecting my frustrations about her not understanding or empathizing with my childhood experiences the few times I've opened up about it. But again, she has absolutely no experience with situations like that, and is a bit emotionally awkward in general, so I can't blame her for it. I know my reactions/emotions are my own and I need to work through them.

I haven't mentioned my discomfort (or the degree of it) to her explicitly, but she has taken a step to be more neutral about it, sent me a post about the character she thought I would like! (Though it mistakenly was a sarcastic hate post lol!! She didn't even realize bc she just isn't on that side of tumblr much.)

I would honestly love to be more emotionally open with her, but she doesn't handle emotional intimacy very well. Or at least, not to the extent that I know the proper way to connect with her in that way.

I'm in love with a character that matches that description, but at least most of fandom loves the shit out of him too, flaws and all. I'm sorry you have to put up with that. Maybe she's overcompensating in her vitriol because she needs her opinions to be validated by others so she can feel in the right. It's the sort of thing that immature people who aren't very self aware do, and you have to decide whether this friend is worth overlooking that kind of behavior for.
