Re: What disappointing food have you made recently?

I was putting in Greek yogurt. I'm not that into yogurt all by itself but I've had smoothies with yogurt before that I liked, and I'm lacto-ovo vegetarian and need more protein. I like strawberries and I was putting in frozen strawberries, though they're so expensive! I did see some at the 99 cent store last time I was there though. A little milk, and I threw in some kale which I couldn't really taste though it did give it a weird color. My blender is a Hamilton Beach blender, a fairly inexpensive one but I've made hummus in it without breaking it so it's not too bad.

AYRT--hm. You might try adding some orange juice for tartness or apple juice for sweetness, depending, or you could even add some frozen apple or orange juice concentrate, or any other juice you like. Commercial bottled juices and smoothies like the ones from Naked Juice or Odwalla use a processed apple juice concentrate that's basically just apple sugar, but just plain apple juice is plenty sweet.

Between the milk, the yogurt, and the kale, the strawberries maybe weren't sweet enough to balance it out. Frozen banana--the ones that are too ripe to eat fresh work well--and/or frozen mango make for really creamy smoothies. How much were you paying for your frozen strawberries? Trader Joe's can be kind of pricy but their frozen berries and other fruit are usually cheaper than the big grocery stores where I am. And if I buy fruit and don't eat it all fresh, sometimes I'll freeze it.

I'll try apple juice next time. And I'll look in Trader Joe's, I have heard that their frozen fruit is cheaper. Thanks for the help!
