Yup. Think about it. Killed in front of thousands to erase the sins of man (in Aslan's case, Edmund), only to rise again and save humanity. Don't feel bad, I didn't know until someone told me too. Then I found out C.S. Lewis was a Christian apologist, and it all made sense. o_0

Yeah. The Magician's Nephew was the creation of the world according to the Book of Genesis in the Bible. I'm sure there are subtle hints that I can't remember in books 3-6, but The Last Battle has everyone crapping out and going to Heaven with Aslan, where there is only joy and no pain. The destruction of Narnia is like the foretold end of the world. Changes how you see the books, don't it? It did that to me!

God damn, I kind of want to read all the other Narnia books now so I can make out all the allegories. I love metaphors.

I discovered them when I had first become a Christian, actually... I was reading/had read much of the Bible before I read them, and religion was what I was really into at the time, so I caught the references in the books right away. I also seem to remember the third book having Eustace turn into a dragon and Aslan was the only one that could shed him of his dragon's skin - and it changed him -- metaphor for redemption.

A teacher recommended the series to me, since I liked fantasy and was worried that I was going to have to give up liking fantasy for my faith (Oh, man, I was watching a lot of TV preachers then). Thanks to dear Mr. Lewis, I realized that, yes, I *can* enjoy fantasy and mythology and still be a Christian. I tell you, Narnia may have indeed saved me from becoming a scary uber-Fundie.

(There are some people on the internet who probably *do* consider me one, but... no. I'm not. I'm a fantasy-loving, anime-loving, evolution-okay-with, slightly liberal-politiced person whom the Fundies do not want).

Indeed. Aslan is a giant allegory for Christ. I mean, he dies for Edmund's crimes and comes back to life. Even if you don't like religion, though, they're still wonderful books.
