THANK YOU. I agree. I took extensive women's studies and gender studies course in college and came to the conclusion that sexism in entertainment, the media, even politics are just the symptoms of a larger underlying problem that isn't being addressed. The devaluation of women is rampant in society in general, it's only reflected in the entertainment we consume. So there's no point in RAGING at the sexism you see in cartoons. And 10 to 1 the person RAGING isn't doing anything to combat sexism in any other aspect of their life, besides bitching about it. (Which really doesn't do a lot of good unless you bitch at the right people.)

tl;dr I agree with you, you are awesome. These people aren't seeing the forest for the trees.

I'm taking film analysis courses and several of them have dealt very heavily with sexism and gender roles, as well as psychoanalytic theory not only on how media reflects society, but how it subtlely influences it. I do not believe that changing how entertainment views women will have no effect on the people viewing said entertainment piece. And in the age of the internet, it's difficult for the people in charge of our entertainment to be unaware of their fandom's views. Maybe in the grand scheme of things it's not as effective as other methods of expressing your opinion, but it does provide access to a large part of the fandom and perhaps those involved with the film/show.

I was a women's studies major, please don't wave your degree at me. You don't know what I am or am not doing at the same time as "raging". That's the point. Generally, people talling someone to "shut up and go do something real" has no idea what else the person doing the analysing-- they just assume we don't do anything.
