114. "Liked?" As in, someone took out the religious subtext? Or just a sort of anti-secret in response to everyone who liked them better before they realized they were religious in nature. Personally, that's one of the things I love about those books. Well, that, Edmund, and Puddleglum.
116. Yeah. Though making a secret about it... But I get it. I feel the same way. It makes me want to go back to enjoying this show in a vaccum with only myself and my best friend.
143. Oh honestly. Yeah, it's totally shocking that people actually freaking enjoyed Coupling! A statement like that just makes you sound like a pretentious twit.
I want to know exactly how freaking sexist it is, really. I've read an article with maybe two statements that could be taken in a sexist manner, and even then I don't think it's as ZOMG RALLY THE TROOPS!!!! as so many people make it out to be. Maybe there's more to it, fine; in fact, I'm sure of it, because if it's all I've seen, then people need to cry moar. (Nowhere near as sexist as, say, Wheel of Time or anything). The only time the attitude bled over into Doctor Who in a way that was visible "hurh?" to people who aren't hyper-hyper sensitive to those sorts of things was the end of "Forests of the Dead."
Just finished showing my best friend Jekyll. I have never seen anyone make better use of 300 minutes of screentime, and it's filled with kick-tail women who generally rock socks.
144. Awww... That's so weird. I don't mean that in a condescending way, just... when I finished watching that show, I ran out of my room, found the first person in my dorm, and gave them a huge, giant huge, and ran around feeling amazingly happy for hours. I think it's a testament to how very good that show was that it can take something I'd normally find awful--jumping to your death on purpose--and actually make that an upbeat ending to me, where it was the only thing I wanted him to do. I wanted him to go back. And he did.
It kind of helps that I never really see these things (stories, that is) in black and white, so I figure he's not actually dead, not in any way that's important. He's just hanging in 1973 with Gene and Annie, happy and crime-solving his way through the afterlife. Or something. There couldn't've been any other ending. Him having stayed would've been too sad.
148. I agree that argument is lame: "Gosh, you think about things. They're dumb; think about other things." But I'll also say a lot of "sexism!" I've seen cried in fandom is a little...I don't know... I used the phrase hyper-sensitive before, and I think it holds true. Not always, not by a long shot. But a lot that I've encountered recently. Namely, a lovely debate that Fables (the comic) was totally sexist (because one of the main, strong women had kids and got married! Oh man, that totally undermines women everywhere!).
