Go into local politics. Address the needs of women in your community. Volunteer at a domestic violence shelter. If you have kids, raise them to where they understand that they do not have to conform to a specific gender role. Teach them to respect others.

That was sort of the point of the secret-- I can do that AND take umbrage when I see something sexist and/or racist and/or classist and/or homophobic on my television screen because what I see on my television screen is both a symptom and cause for those other things. My caring is not a zero-sum game. I can do many things to change the world at once.

Anyone who uses the television to dictate how they should behave in society is in serious need of 'getting a life'. Why is the 'boobtube' given such weight and credence these days? THAT'S what needs to be addressed.

It needs to be addressed but misinformation is easier to counter when the source is placed in perspective, not for us but for those that DO use it as a sexist/racist/classist/homophobic soapbox.

Sadly for many people in the world, it is their only source of brain food and don't/won't realize it's flaws. We, as a whole, aren't encouraged to think for ourselves anymore.
