(Anonymous) 2017-10-21 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)I think if I would have started with Twilight, I would not have read the rest.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-21 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)But anyway, I feel you anon. I wouldn't say I actually decried the series in my teens. I wasn't really outwardly critical of it. But I definite judged it privately. Then I read the first two books in my mid twenties and enjoyed the hell out of them. Not that I think they'd good; they're not. But I don't really care. They're fun, yummy junk food novels.
I also really like the first Twilight movie. Catherine Hardwicke's directing in my jam. The "my own personal brand of heroin" scene makes me cringe from beginning to end and I wish they'd cut almost all of it, but besides that, I genuinely like the movie.
Sadly, I absolutely loathed Eclipse (the book), so my fun kind of ended with the first two. But maybe you'll like it better than I did.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-22 12:22 am (UTC)(link)I'm sure I like some terrible series myself, but I don't pretend they're anything but, nor do I acted shocked when I discover that there are people in the world with sticks up their butts.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)They're judgy because Twilight is rather terrible as a series.
And that's fine. Judging Twilight is fine. It's judging people for enjoying it that I think is dickish.
I'm sure I like some terrible series myself, but I don't pretend they're anything but
That's fine. But if someone else thinks a piece of fiction is better than you think it is, so what? Now they deserve to be sneered at, and have it heavily implied that they are stupid and infantile (which is what a lot of Twilight fans have to deal with)? Tastes differ.
Look, I don't think the Twilight series is good. OP isn't claiming it's good, nor are any of the other people in this thread who are saying they liked some or all of it. But if someone does want to come in here and argue that it is good, so what? Obviously, for them, it is good.
nor do I acted shocked when I discover that there are people in the world with sticks up their butts.
Oh, that wasn't shock. That was contempt for judgey dicks.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-22 01:17 am (UTC)(link)I can understand that to a degree. Though there are honestly so many other pieces of popular fiction that are so. much. worse in that regard, including pieces of teen fiction. The sheer level of hatred heaped on Twilight is extremely disproportionate.
That said, my initial comment wasn't actually about people hating on Twilight. It's the prerogative of the individual to like or hate a work of fiction. My comment was about people being judgmental jerks towards anyone and everyone who enjoys Twilight.
