I make a lot of secrets for this comm and while there's occasionally some negative feedback, most people aren't particularly mean about them. I don't count trolls because it's not personal, they're just being juvenile.

you know I honestly think that it's the right decision. If you feel that some secrets are going to be more trouble then gain - don't submit it.

I know the feeling, and I've just entirely stopped making secrets. Someone would take what I meant the wrong way and then the entire chain would derail. When you're just wanting people to discuss X thing and the trolls notice/insert Y thing instead, it gets annoying.

It didn't help that I take things to heart and couldn't fully separate myself from the anonymous aspect of secret-making. They don't know who you are, and yet, it still hurts your feelings a bit. :c

That's entirely your call, but I think if you (that's a general "you") submit secrets with the hope of controlling the discussion other people have, you're setting yourself up for a disappointment.

I hope this isn't rude but - while we can run wild with secrets here sometimes, I also think there are times where the people who are making the secrets don't quite realize what they're actually saying?

Like... I kind of think sometimes our reactions might not actually be wrong? But it'll still annoy the secret makers?

I don't know if it's the same anon or different anons, but I've seen this complaint before of "People really misinterpret my secrets" and I think, well... if this is happening to you on a regular basis, it might be time to consider the possibility that you're not expressing yourself very clearly. We all have misunderstandings from time to time, but it could be that people are picking up on something OP isn't aware of in their own text.

I 100% get it.
Half or so of the users here are angry, bitter, hateful little farts imo.
I have various theories as to why, but it really is ruining the community and making everything a lot less fun. :T

I agree, and I don't make secrets anymore for this reason either. It's not the discussion, it's the "you must be fun at parties" and the "tbh you sound ignorant" that gets me :( And as above anon said, the threads derail so often - it's not like I want to control the discussion, it's just that my secret are often something I care/think a lot about, so I'm posting the secret in hopes that people will bounce thoughts with me, and that so rarely happens that I've given up.

Yeah exactly.
I once made a secret about how I wish game companies made more games that could run on macs, and 90% of the comments were just a bunch people throwing hissy fits and calling me "a rotten spoiled brat" simply because I owned a mac and therefore that meant I was rich and therefore I had nothing to complain about??? Like that was the actual reason. To this day I'm still baffled on how anyone came to that conclusion.
But geez. way to derail the entire thread and personally insult me for dumb and petty reasons lmao thanks guys. 🙄

A lot of the time I don't even go back and read the comment threads if it's a secret I think will generate a lot of wank. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sometimes I just use F!S to vent and that's it.
