This is why that site will always be stuck in beta.

It seems like you're trying to make some kind of point about AO3, but I don't really see what it is

Why on Earth would you be mad that AO3 is protecting its archive against spammers?

It's temporary and it's to relieve pressure from spammers. What's your damage?

presumably, the usual "every website that fandom didn't use in 2004 is objectively bad" stuff we see on here

As a certified Fandom Old Fart, I will never understand this.

I'm also very old and I will admit my first reaction to AO3 was a touch... uncharitable, but I've grown to really like it.

AO3 is objectively more fandom-friendly than LJ as a built-in purpose, but it's less fine-tuned than tumblr in terms of actually perfecting the site for the way people like to use it, and in case you're not that familiar with tumblr, that's not good.

The site to compare to AO3 is probably ff.net, not LJ

Okay... it says 'for a week', and this is not the first time they've done this in the face of people being dickweeds, so... not sure what your beef is?

Because they're constantly working to improve the way the site functions?

I don't consider that to be a bad thing.

What are these constant improvements you speak of?

Re: AO3 turning off invitations completely.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-24 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that the site still runs pretty efficiently despite the fact that they need ever increasing server sizes for one.

I would sort of consider that the bare minimum of maintaining a website.
