Honestly, I felt similarly when BBC Sherlock "Briti-fied" the canonically American Irene Adler (to say nothing of all the other harm they did to her character).

Especially since the few American characters in BBC Sherlock were portrayed extremely negatively. And book!canon Irene was awesome and badass, and honestly Brit-ifying her (when they surely could have had a British actress due an American accent, like Dormer's Irene in Elementary) just seems like Moftiss intentionally holding this cool thing out of their American fans hands.

To be honest, the general character assassination job done on Irene Adler was so egregious in Sherlock that making her a Brit seemed pretty trivial by comparison.

Yeah, the making-her-British thing didn't even register, next to Moffat's more egregious characterization sins.

I was far less bothered by her being British than how she got so obsessed with Sherlock, when the ACD Irene was like "Phfft!"
