I think Finn and John are super charming and wonderful but I still know what you mean. Like, Finn is not going to be the center of all promo material. It's an ensemble movie with a huge fictional universe and a lot of fans to please.

It feels very performative. Paired with all the vicious Kylo-hate it just makes them look like an insincere assholes. I acknowledge there are racist elements to how Finn is portrayed in promo materials and fandom. I don't think what they're doing is an effective antidote though.

Really? How so? I have not heard anything about this, and can't say the promo materials have pinged my radar.

I believe it's things like him being removed from posters (in China I think), not featuring on reissued comic covers where before he was, no Finn-figures in sets of figures and instead you get a generic storm-trooper (like how Rey wasn't included in sets last year) and so on. There's totally a point there, it's fairly undeniable.
