I don't blame you, I find a lot of the characters unbearable and the show gets overhyped a lot. What did you dislike about it?

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched part of one episode and found it pretty boring.

why keep it secret? I've never liked that show.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
OK.

I guess I liked Walt and Jesse a lot as characters. Most of the side characters were kinda meh, but some of them had their moments, too. But Walt and Jesse had a great dynamic and were really exciting to watch. I think I cared more about them than most of the plot points itself. Some of it, like the actual police work stuff, was kinda meh - but then again, I'm not into police dramas anyway.

fwiw the first season is a very odd and different dark comedy tone, whereas the rest of the series is straight drama. I can see why people wouldn’t like it though, and it’s more and more of a downer as it goes on.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I hated Walt. I didn't get how people could root for someone so fucking awful.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't root for that asshole. Felt bad for Jesse, though. Actually, I felt bad for anyone who came into contact with Walt. That guy was poison.

I haven't watched any of it and am glad people are starting to forget about it, or at least they aren't talking about and recommending it constantly anymore. I can't watch things that have a lot of graphic drug use or revolve around drugs/drug culture. I'm a recovering addict and I don't hide that but I'm not comfortable telling every casual acquaintance, either. The fans of this show just couldn't comprehend that not everyone in the world wanted to watch it.

LOL ok

Also, I'm sorry for the shit you went through, but your whole post reads something to the akin of "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe it's a bit more like stop being a pushy cunt about a show someone just told you they don't watch and aren't interested in.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's really not how their post reads at all. You seem weirdly butthurt that someone doesn't like the show.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
reading comprehension isn't your strong point, is it? that's not what anon was saying at all

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say, I kind of get what the other person meant. I have never watched an episode and never intended to, and a friend would NOT stop recommending it. I had valid reasons (just not into a show about drug use, doesn't interest me) and silly reasons (I bore an irrational grudge against the lead actor for taking away Jon Hamm's Lead Actor Emmy for Mad Men). But she would not. let. it. drop. Just...chill, okay? I'm not interested.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god yes, I worked with addicts for many years before having a complete burnout (not the addicts' fault mostly, more the system) and I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH THIS SHOW! But that just means people tell me that I should try this episode, or watch up until here, and ugh ugh go away, not everyone likes everything.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like it's an excellent show in a lot of ways, but I can't care about it much, because I don't like any of the characters, and I constantly want Walt to get caught and sent to prison (or just die). Plus I find him pathetic rather than cool. (Are we honestly supposed to find him cool? I can never tell for sure.)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ultimately, you aren't supposed to find him cool, but I do think there's kind of a double-layer thing where like....the show wants to ~trick~ you into thinking he's cool with Proud Male Anti-Hero Bullshit and then as it the show continuously reveals what a selfish, soulless, egotistical pointless fuck he is, you realize that he was never cool and you've swallowed this cultural bullshit blah blah blah

it's genuinely excellent storytelling, but it's a deeply miserable story, and anyone who's a little too far to one side or the other will genuinely root for walt waaaaaaay too long, or will never be convinced by his self-serving justifications at all

I watched the whole damn thing, mostly in marathonning, and I love some of the side characters, and the pacing and structure and irony and background music and shit are all stunning, but when it was over I honestly just sobbed my eyes out for like twenty minutes because it made me so fucking miserable to realize that Walt was just going to die and there was no hell that would punish him enough for his horribleness

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 05:29 am (UTC)(link)

I think your description of the show is spot on, and captures what makes the show intelligent and interesting. But I also think you've articulated what it is that put me off about the show from the beginning. Which is actually a twofold issue.

The first problem is that, as you say, I was never convinced by Walt's self-serving justifications. I mean they held water for maybe the first couple of episodes, but after that I was pretty much over it.

But I think what ended up turning me off the show far more was how common it was for people to talk about the character like, oh, now that he's killing people, dealing meth by the kilo, and everyone's intimidated by him, he's cool as shit. I don't think it was the show's fault that a lot of people responded to the character that way, but every time I saw/heard people talking about the show that way it just made me feel annoyed, and I came across it so much I started feeling annoyed by Breaking Bad in general.

I don't think we were supposed to find Walt particularly cool. He gets made an ass of too often. The way he acted around Sky after she figured his shit out was seriously cringey. And before that, he was sort of an awkward nerdy guy.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
People are allowed to dislike things, it's okay.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I admire the writing and plotting on this show and it's interesting, but I quit watching because it was too stressful. I don't really enjoy watching people spiral into awfulness and that's pretty much the core of the series.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
My favorite seasons were the later ones with Gus.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
You are not alone.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I tried watching BB and I just couldn't get into it.
