If it was Keaton instead of Arbuckle, I could get more behind this post.

Oh YEAH! Buster Keaton is my silent era crush. He was gorgeous - and his films are still so funny!

Keaton could look very good sometimes, but booze and stress took a toll pretty early. "Adorkable" has to have been coined for Harold Lloyd and Charles Farrell. Actors from this period whom I think unjustly neglected include Richard Dix, Ricardo Cortez, and Johnny Mack Brown.

In the case of Arbuckle, it's partly the character he presents in his films; partly that he's gotten crossed in my mind with a guy I knew in college. I would like to believe that there is a hell, so that I could send Kenneth Anger there.

But then I think Clark Gable looks like a monkey, and Gary Cooper is plainer than a dirt road and so wooden he's a fire hazard, so obviously I know nothing.

nayrt, Clark Gable is kind of funny looking. But I would agree that the man had loads of charisma that compensate for the unconventional looks.
